Problem With Diskutil Command With Processbuilder For Mac
I got a bad news. I can't install my Myst V. Last month i bought a new Mac Pro. I think the system requirement in my mac PC is more than this game need. But I still not understand why i can't install this game to my mac PC. When i try to double click the games icon, it will run the installation. Then, i just follow the instruction until it show this message: Please read the summary information below: Errors occurred during the installation.null So i need your help how i want to solve this problem.

If u can help me, please email to me at ehafiz87@yahoo.com. I got a bad news. I can't install my Myst V. Last month i bought a new Mac Pro.

(I did keep my G4 tower, as I have games that will only run in Classic, like Myst and Riven.) @ dsylvian - As I said, I'm not a programmer, so I couldn't debug your output even if you posted it. The best suggestion I have is to uninstall Myst V and delete the myst5 directory that was created during the process, then start over, paying very careful attention to your typing. Added in edit: you don't have to enable Rosetta; it enables automatically when it's needed. Also, I'm not sure if, after you've successfully installed Myst V, you still need the myst5 directory that was created. I didn't delete mine. I'm not a computer programmer, but with high hopes I tried the procedure described by LunaNik anyway. Unfortunately, I'm not having any success.
When I enter the command 'mv jadap158.' Terminal replies 'mv: jadap158.zip and./jadap158.zip are identical'. I don't know what this means. Looking in the myst5 file in the Finder, I do find a jadap158.zip and a folder jadap158 which holds the jad executable and Readme.txt. LunaNik said this command '.will move the contents of the jadap158 folder to where you need them.'
Where's that? Can I do a drag-and-drop in the Finder instead and then continue the procedure?
(When I ignored the message and tried the next command, './jad com/installshield/wizard/service/file/PureJavaFileServiceImpl.class', I was told '-bash:./jad: No such file or directory'.). My Dad knows a bit of programming and said 'It is a Unix command that says move all files (plural because of the star) with the leading characters 'jadap158.' From the current directory to the '.' Directory (root directory).'
Well, that explains the problem since there's only a ReadMe file and a jad file. I assumed the important one was the jad file, so dragged a copy one level up (i.e. From the jadap158 folder to the myst5 folder).
Then I continued with the procedure as specified. Terminal warned me with some unexpected notes, which I ignored. (Note: PureJavaFileServiceImpl.java uses unchecked or unsafe operations. Note: Recompile with -Xlint:unchecked for details.) And of course, I also got all the errors that LunaNik warned about. However, I seem to have successfully completed the installation as outlined by LunaNik.
Now it's time to play the game and see if it truly was a success! I had the same problem with LunaNik's procedure that gtolsen had (getting the message 'mv: jadap158.zip and./jadap158.zip are identical'), but I was unable to fix it in the way described above.
I tried 'mv jadap158/.' Instead of 'mv jadap158.' But I just got the message 'mv: No match. I also tried the 'single command' listed above (jadap158/jad com/installshield/wizard/service/file/PureJavaFileServiceImpl.class), but then I got the message 'jadap158/jad: Command not found.' Right now if I go into my user folder and into the Myst5 folder, I have a file called 'jadap158.zip' and one called 'jadap158.zip.cpgz'. I'm not sure what to try from here. If I try going forward with any of the following instructions, it doesn't help.
I don't know what isn't working! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Quote:Originally posted by fbl1953: I found what I think is a typo in LunaNik's instructions. Oops, I posted too soon - I was just at the bottom of the first page of messages, and didn't realize that there was a second page with what I'm sure are much better suggestions from people far more Unix/Terminal savvy than I am. That said, the modification I mentioned allowed me to install Myst V on my Intel iMac (OS 10.5.7 with the latest Java patch issued June 15, 2009). However, I cannot get the program to run.
Similar to what others have mentioned, The icon flashes for a second when I double click on it in its folder, and then., nothing. Something's missing. Strange that ubi soft only has a patch for the limited edition as the patch works also for other editions after a small adaption.
The patcher creates a disk image of the cd, ejects the cd and than starts working with the file in the setup folder. However, that filename is different for different editions. There is no error warning for an different edition and the patcher hangs after creating the disk image.
How I fixed it: 0) Get the patcher for the limitted edition here: (1) I opened the setup folder of the Myst dvd and copied the filename. (actually retyped it in an texteditor) In my case the name was: bd34fbe22aed2ba904da67fe5021cc05 2) I copied the official ubi patch to harddisk so I can edit it. 3) ctrl-click the patcher and select 'show content'. 4) Open the folders Content - Resources - Scripts until you find the file 'Myst V Installer Patcher.scpt' 5) Open this file with the mac texteditor by dragging it on its icon. 6) you'll see al kind of unreadable code that should stay unchanged. Look for the four occurences of the text: 60f3b48b952a00f915ae4b48fe453c29 and replace it with the text co copied earlier. (all four occurrences are close together) 7) Save the script and the changed patcher will now find the right folder to work on.
I tried this on a 2.66 GHz i-mac with Leopard. I played my Myst long ago with an old 700 MHz i-mac and wanted to see how it performed on my new computer.
The readme with the dvd wrote '- This application will not work properly on Mac's with the Intel Processor (or maybe very slowly via Rosetta).' But I can assure that it runs significant faster than with my old G4 i-mac. Hi, I'm having problems with this. I'm not very familiar with command lines for Mac OS and I'm not sure if I should jump into that stuff just yet.
I'd like to get a bit of additional advice first. I have the Limited Edition and I've run the patch provided by Ubisoft but I'm not seeing anyplace on my computer where it's been installed. I don't know how to actually run the game now.
I did check on the dvd though, I scrolled down past the broken installer and found lots of stuff that looked like it was for PC, but I also found a 'mveoa' icon with the pencil, ruler, and paintbrush, so I double clicked it. It came up to what looked like the rest of the installer.
I clicked ok for English, then accepted the license agreement, but when I chose next to accept the default install location it gives me an error 'getPartitionNames requires native support' and an ok button. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
I have an Intel iMac 24' 3.06ghz 10.5.7 with all the updates, and an ATI 4850 HD video card. Help me everyone, you're my only hope! Quote:Originally posted by aristo216: I have the Limited Edition and I've run the patch provided by Ubisoft You have to manually edit the Patch as per the instructions two posts above yours from CmdrOolite. Copy the patcher from the disk image that mounts when you run the Ubisoft patch, to your desktop. Then you can edit it.
Once edited, run the installation from that modified installer, with your Myst DVD in your drive. The 'getPartitionNames requires native support' error you've seen is because the folder name in the original Ubisoft Patch isn't correct for your Myst DVD version. That's why you have to edit it. Just use Text Edit, and use the Find/Replace function for the four instances of the folder name and you should be good to go. No other Java hacking, etc. Should be necessary.
Quote:Originally posted by aristo216: However, when I double click to run Myst V, I get an error saying 'You can't open the application 'Myst V End of Ages' because it is not supported on this architecture.' When I did all of LunaNik's fix, with the Terminal, I was able to install but it wouldn't run, just as you have found, so at that point I gave up. However, a few days ago CmdrOolite posted his method of editing the installer script, which worked for me with my copy of the PC/Mac version of Myst V, not the Limited Edition. So sorry, I can't help more than that.
I have been trying to install Myst V on my MacBook (running Snow Leopard) with no luck. I have it installed on my G5 system but this is going away soon so I need it to work on my MacBook. I tried patching the UbiSoft patch file as documented by CmdrOolite and this seemed to work O.K. it went through all the motions and finished successfully but the 'Ubisoft/Cyan Worlds' folder it created was empty.
Tried running it twice with the same result. What worked was copying the files inside the 'Cyan Worlds' folder from my G5 system to the MacBook. So if anyone else is stuck trying to install on an Intel machine they could try finding a friend with a PowerPC Mac, installing it on that and copying the relevant files off onto CD and copying them onto their Intel machine. Could you please precise how you open the setup file? Thanks Hi frenchfly1954 If you click on the 'setup' folder in a Finder window, you will see a folder inside 'setup' - this folder has the long filename as its title. If you click on this folder the title will show up at the top of the Finder window and you can manually copy it into a TexEdit document. If its the same title as the one quoted above just copy and paste it from the forum posting. So I'm still stuck. If anyone had a clue.

Thanks Are you running as Administrator on your Mac? I had no problem with patching the script file. Select the patch file in Finder and use Cmd-I to get the Info window for the file. At the bottom in the permissions area it should have you with Privileges set to Read & Write. If the privileges are Read only and you are the Admin on the Mac then click on the padlock on the bottom and change the privileges to Read & Write then try patching again. Hi GeoffR, In fact now I succeeded in modifying the patcher, launched it, seemed Ok since I heard the DVD spinning in the drive, got the message that the ptching was complete but nothing happenned, no installation launched at the end of the process like mentionned, just hte DVD ejected.
So I'm now inthe same situation as you are, except that I have no Power PC around!!!! Would it be crazy to share these installation files? Probably yes, too heavy I guess. Cisco for mac download.
So the last chance for me is the virtual machine but with degradated performance Thanks anyway for the support. I'm still trying various things to get the installer to run. The Myst V demo installs and runs fine on my system!
You can download it through this Apple page: but you need Stuffit to unpack the package. I was hoping when I installed the demo that it would install something to sort out the problems I'm having with Myst V, but no such luck. The demo runs fine on my system (Mac Pro, Snow Leopard 10.6.1) although I haven't spent a lot of time playing it yet. The Myst V game starts up O.K. And runs fine up to the end of the K'veer age. After Yeesha gives her speech the player is supposed to be transported to the actual beginning of the game but nothing happens and the game has to be force-quit at this point.
If may have something to do with the version of Python installed as I get the following messages in the Console log: Oct 13 15:15:23 Thor 0x0-0x37037.com.ubisoft.mystv749: Could not find platform independent libraries Oct 13 15:15:23 Thor 0x0-0x37037.com.ubisoft.mystv749: Could not find platform dependent libraries Oct 13 15:15:23 Thor 0x0-0x37037.com.ubisoft.mystv749: Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to : I do have some saved game positions from later in Myst V which play all right. Maybe this isn't relevant, but I began having trouble playing Myst V on my Mac G5 after my OEM ATI Radeon 9650 graphics card had about 4 years on it. The game would freeze just after Yeesha's speech, when she turned away.
Sometimes the game would play past that point and then freeze near the beginning of Direbo. I finally found that upgrading my graphics card to an ATI Radeon X800 XT fixed the problem. Maybe the OEM card was failing, or maybe the game requirements were just a little too high for it. (but originally it worked fine). It could also be that your graphics card driver is not the latest and needs to be updated. Hi GeoffR, Thank you! Quote:Originally posted by frenchfly1954: Hi GeoffR, Thank you!
Quote:Originally posted by frenchfly1954: Hi again, Did all the process again and this time got no error message but cannot run the game. When I click on the game icon in the Myst V EOA folder, nothing happens.
Quite disappointing Hi frenchfly1954 Don't know why it's not starting. Could you run the Console application (in Applications/Utilities) and look in the System Log for messages at the time when you tried to run the game - there may be something relevant in there.
I will post the instructions for fixing the decompression problem soon. Sound Decompression Fix The installation procedure detailed above appears to work O.K. Apart from a problem with decompressing the game sounds. There is an application which is supposed to run during installation to decompress the sound files but it is not an executable file for some reason so never runs.
The following procedure should work (I tried doing a “CHMOD +x” on the main game file but that doesn’t fix the decompression utility). You will need to run the Terminal utility and also have a Finder window open. In Finder, navigate to the Ubisoft/Cyan Worlds/Myst V/End Of Ages/Myst V End of Ages.App file.
In the Terminal window enter: cd that is “cd” and a space Now drag and drop the “Myst V End of Ages.App” file behind “cd” and then press return. Now go back to the Finder window and right-click (or ctrl-click) on the “Myst V End of Ages.App” file and select “Show Package Contents”. This will open another Finder window showing the “Contents” folder.
Click on “Contents” then “Resources” and scroll down until you find the “plSoundDecompress” file. Right-click on this file and select “Show Package Contents”. This will open another Finder window showing the “Contents” folder. Click on “Contents” and then on “MacOS”. This will display two files, called “plSoundDecompress” and “plSoundDecompress.xsym”.
These should be of Kind = Unix Executable but they are Kind = Document. To fix them, do the following. In the Terminal window enter: chmod +x Now drag and drop the “plSoundDecompress” file to the Terminal window and press return. Chmod +x Repeat with the other file. Exit the Terminal utility. Close the second Finder window.
You need to go back to the “plSoundDecompress” utility by right-clicking on the “Myst V End of Ages.App” file and selecting “Show Package Contents” then clicking on “Contents” and “Resources” and scrolling down to the file. You should be able to double-click this file to launch it and it should run for some time decompressing the sound files. Hi John Looks like you have a permissions problem.
I had some of these as well. I assume you have changed permissions on the game file as specified in my post for the 15th October?
It could be one of the files inside the game package that needs attention. In Finder, navigate to the game file - Ubisoft/Cyan Worlds/Myst V End Of Ages/Myst V End of Ages Right-click (or ctrl-click) on the file and select 'Show Package Contents'. Double-click on the 'Contents' folder then on the 'MacOS' folder. You should see a file called 'Myst V End of Ages'. Single-click on this file to select it and check the 'Kind' in the finder window, it should be 'Unix Executable File'. If it's not then you need to apply the 'Chmod +X' command to this file.
You could follow the instructions in my posting called 'Sound Decompression Fix' on the previous page of this thread but apply it to this specific file. Let me know if you still have problems. GeoffR I want to make sure of a couple of things. WHen I run the java compiler command I should only see two messages when done. No error or warning messages but some weird messages. If the script you want us to mod was not done correctly then you get errors right? If there were added correctly there will be no errors?
DO you have a a few lines of that script you can paste? I want to see the lines above and right after to make sure the one line of script was removed correctly and that the script added is indented correctly.
The sound decompress utility does work because the SFX directly goes from 384mb to 2.68GB. They are Document files but they are actually ogg files. Should it not say ogg and not document?
MAybe that why I only hear the intro and once the game is at the menu there is no sound? I am on hackintosh but that does not matter since everything works 100% on my mac clone.
Something is wrong with the SFX dir, either the rights or something? What else could it be? I have sound for the intro including the father speaking about what has happened to him and all. Its just right when I get to the main game menu no sound!!!
Ok here are some terminal messages but null pointer etc obviously some problem still exists: osxfr33ks-MacBook-Pro:macos osxfr33k$./'Myst V End of Ages' Sat Nov 21 14:03:34 osxfr33ks-MacBook-Pro.local Myst V End of Ages175: kCGErrorIllegalArgument: CGSCopyRegion: Null pointer Sat Nov 21 14:03:34 osxfr33ks-MacBook-Pro.local Myst V End of Ages175: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint to catch errors as they are logged. Anyone else with no sound after the intro screen? EDITED AGAIN: I put in a Cables to Go USB Audio and everything works fine so its my Built in Audio which uses a HAck VoodooHDA which must be the problem. Sorry about all that!! Hi Caroline Sorry you're having problems installing. Not sure what the problem could be. Are you running Snow Leopard on your Mac?
You also mention that you were unable to save the script - was this the script called 'PureJavaFileServiceImpl.jad? You need to resolve this before the Java run will work properly. Try running 'Repair Disk Permissions' using Disk Utility and try the whole installation again. It's probably best to quit any other applications while you're doing the installation.
Let me know if you still have problems. If the save of the script file still fails, check if there are any messages in the console log immediately after the save fails. Hi everyone, Just I thought I'd chip in here to say that rather than messing about with these complicated Terminal commands, try this fixed installer app instead: Myst V End of Ages Setup (8.2 MB) edit This file has been removed. See further down for patcher app. This is based on Ubisoft's patch, not Lucas Carlson's procedure. Both Ubisoft's and Lucas's fixes modify a single java file inside the setup archive but the difference is Ubisoft's modification also results in the execute permissions getting set correctly (so I'm not sure why people are using Terminal rather than the patch).
However, this fixed setup program means you don't have to copy the entire installer data to your hard drive before installing, so it's far quicker and less hassle. Note that it does assume everyone has the same md5 checksum as Lucas's one (60f3b48b952a00f915ae4b48fe453c29). I'm not sure if this varies between editions or something like that. Let me know if it works for you Cheers, Gannet.
It would help if you told me what the errors are The first thing you should do is make sure you have the Myst V DVD mounted when you run the setup program. Having read this topic a little more carefully now, I understand there are two different editions (which is funny, because according to Wikipedia the Limited Edition was the only one available for Mac), with two different md5 checksums. If you have a folder on your DVD named '60f3b48b952a00f915ae4b48fe453c29' then the setup program should work fine.
If your folder is named 'bd34fbe22aed2ba904da67fe5021cc05', it may work with a little modification. Try these Terminal commands (noting carefully where the spaces are): cd drag and drop the Setup application here cd Contents/Resources/Java/setup/60f3b48b952a00f915ae4b48fe453c29/ rm md5 ln -s /Volumes/Myst V EOA/bd34fbe22aed2ba904da67fe5021cc05/md5 md5 If this works for you I could upload a second copy of the app for that edition. If it doesn't work, I'll need someone to upload a copy of their setup.jar file so that I can take a look at it. Okay, I've updated the setup app with small modifications and if you download it now the commands above will not work. However, I have also made this: Myst V Installer Patcher ((323 KB) This is what Ubisoft's patch.should. have been.
It's near-instant and will hopefully work with whatever edition/weird folder name you have. The resultant setup app should work perfectly with no Terminal commands necessary at all http://forums.ubi.com/groupeecommon/emoticons/iconsmile.gif.

I've tried a few now, and yours got the closest but still no luck.
I'm using the PC/Mac version with the bd34fbe. I downloaded our Patcher and ran it, a small error came up (that unfortunately I didn't note) but chose EDIT instead of OK, which opened the cript editor. I chose RUN which asked me to choose a destination for the setup. I chose desktop and here I may have made a booboo because although it worked, in the end I got the error below: error 'Myst V End of Ages Setup got an error: Connection is invalid.'
Number -609 Now out of curiosity for this post I wanted to replicate my test to find out what that error was I didn't read properly. I had trashed the patch by now though, so I double-clicked the installer from my downloads list in Safari. It instantly took me back to a destination for the setup program, I then chose to QUIT instead of run. Then double-clicked the setup. This time it went into the wizard for setup.
It is now at 84% while I have been typing. Okay, so I waited until it had finished installing to finish this post but so far so good. It spent some time decompressing sound files so I hope not to have the same problems as some people.
I've altered the video settings to max (as I'm running a high end graphics card with a 23' screen) and I may as well try it out at max power to start with. So thank you very much! And since I've only been trying to get this to work for 24 hours I am impressed.
I hope you manage to help others who've been trying for much longer. Now I'm trying to install the Win/Mac two disk version of Myst IV Revelation and am wondering if you or any of the contributors on this thread would be interested in putting your minds to this problem. I know there is a separate thread on MystIV, but only RealXCV is working on both threads. What do you think? Hi Kibbles, Try the Myst V installer from the link in my sig. I haven't tested on Mountain Lion since I don't have Myst V any more but it ought to still work.
(If you do prefer the Terminal method, the version of JAD that Heimdall linked to at the start of this topic is a PowerPC-only one and won't run on Lion or later. You'll need to download the Intel version from here (or use some other java decompiler.) edit Sorry, scratch all that. Myst V itself is PowerPC only and won't run on Lion or later. You'll have to play it on Windows or an older Mac OS X system. Thanks for the good info on this thread. I do understand that the installation method presented here is for the DVD version of Myst V.
Problem With Diskutil Command With Processbuilder For Mac
However, I've been trying to use it (the Terminal method) to install M5EOA from the 3 CD version (branded as PC only). Installation proceeds smoothly, but with some errors. The error log indicates that the correct file could not be found for either disk2 or disk3, even though disk2 and disk3 were swapped in and searched when the install called for them.
When I try to run the M5EOA application, it gives the error message, 'You can't open the application, Myst V End of Ages, because it may be damaged or incomplete.' I suspect that this may have something to do with modifying the file, PureJavaFileServiceImpl.jad, and changing the 'String as' area to somehow recognize the files on disk2 and disk3.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to do this (or even if I'm on the right path). If someone could help, that would be greatly appreciated. Even if it's just to explain why it can't be done with the 3 CD version. Hi rfrgs800 I'm sure we can solve this one way or another.
Could you post your.jar file so I can download it and take a look at it? Also a list of files on the disk (just the top level) might be helpful, along with the name of the disk. @Kibbles: Ubisoft's patch merely allowed the java-based installer to work on Intel machines where it previously wouldn't, even under Rosetta. The game itself was unchanged and remained PPC-only but it did work under Rosetta at the time. Only when 10.7 came out was Rosetta dropped, leaving us with no way to run PPC software anymore. I had a brief attempt at getting realMyst running under cider at one point but didn't pursue it very far. The same could be tried for Myst V but I'll have to leave that to someone else.
Cyan supposedly has plans (to re-release realMyst, Riven and Myst V for OS X at some point but there's no official word on that yet. Hi Gannet7, Thanks for the reply.
I guess you're referring to the setup.jar file from the Myst5 CD. Unfortunately, I don't have permission to post attachments here. Is there another way? Regarding the disk name and top level list of files: CD1 name: Myst V EOA Files: Autorun.inf, eoa.exe, media.inf, MystV.exe, setup (folder), setup.jar, setupwin32.exe, support (folder) CD2 name: disk2 Files: Autorun.inf, media.inf, MystV.exe, setup (folder), support (folder) CD3 name: disk3 Files: Autorun.inf, media.inf, MystV.exe, setup (folder), support (folder). ' Quick question: Have you tried using my installer from here? I expect it will need a little modification to work with the CD set but if you haven't already tried it it would be worth a shot.'
.Gannet7 The above quote I've pasted from your private email to me. The link, 'here', probably doesn't work in my paste, but it is Gannet7's Myst V Installer Patcher. I thought I'd tried all of the installer/patchers, and really, I didn't think it would work, but I'd try it just to cover all the bases.
IT WORKED PERFECTLY! Now I feel like an idiot, but thanks so much for your help. Here are a few comments I have from my install: 1). I'm running Snow Leopard on a MacBook Air, and using a USB DVD/CD-RW drive. When the install called for disk2 and disk3, I had to eject CD1 from Finder, insert CD2, then Browse for disk2 to Mac HD/Volumes/disk2. (Likewise for disk3.) 3).

When the install finished, I clicked Finish. However, Decompressing Sounds was still working for another 5 to 10 minutes, so you have to wait for that to finish before trying to run the game. I run the game from the default install location, Applications/Myst V End of Ages. So thanks again. Your help on this problem is really awesome!
Ringo, by 'the latest mac software' do you mean that you're running OS X 10.8? If so, that's the source of your problem the Mac version of Myst V requires OS X 10.6.8 or earlier (it isn't compatible with OS X 10.7 or later).
If this is the case, you'll need to install OS X 10.6 on your Mac. How you can do this will depend upon the age and model of your Mac, the version of OS X it originally shipped with, and to a lesser extent, your country of residence (for access to OS X 10.6 Server). Please check out this Apple Discussion article (to determine if your Mac is capable of running Snow Leopard on a partition. If not, you may have the option of running it inside a virtualization program (such as Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox) you'll find a link inside the article.
And if you just need help installing the game, you can try my Myst V Mac Installer (V Mac Installer.zip) (it only installs the game to compatible versions of OS X).
